A Weekend (and a Day) Of Showcase Music

On April 11th, I sang with Bill Zeffiro, Jennifer Wren, and Summer Broyhill on two of Zeffiro’s original music pieces at Sandi Durell’s 8th Annual Songwriters Showcase, which was dedicated to new music by contemporary composers. Bill and Jennifer solo’d and dueted to “What the Hell, It’s Christmas” and “The Road to Ruin,” while Summer and I sang backup. We also heard music by David Conforte, Hector Coris, Alyce Finell, Annie Lebeaux, Peter Napolitano/Mark Janas/Matthew Ward, June Rachelson-Ospa/Kezia Hirsey, Brad Ross, Bill Zeffiro and Jeff Blumenkranz. Singers included: Eric Comstock & Barbara Fasano, Marni Nixon, Kevin Reed, Trisha Rapier, JulieContinue readingA Weekend (and a Day) Of Showcase Music

The Daily Show Taping & Rock of Ages (surprise!)

A friend of ours, Carrie Seo, contacted us a while ago and asked if we were available to go see a taping of The Daily Show on Thursday the 9th. Of course, Pete and I cleared our schedule. We met Carrie as early as we thought was safe to get in a reasonable place on line – we turned out to be the first ones there…was it because of Passover that there wasn’t a huge, rambunctious turnout like last time? In any event, we were first in line and certainly happy it wasn’t a cold day. Pete and I InContinue readingThe Daily Show Taping & Rock of Ages (surprise!)

Sounds of My Apartment #1

April 3, 2009: Drips from My Ceiling Here is a lovely beat from the multiple drops of what was apparently Kitchen sink overflow water from the neighbor’s apartment upstairs. It was discovered as I was going to sleep, and luckily nothing was harmed. However, now serious surgery will have to be done with the ceiling and our bedroom is a bit of a mess right now. Enjoy!

A Wonderful Birthday Week!

Had to throw in a post about the marvelous time(s) I had this week, partly due to my first Birthday in New York, and partly due to the visitation of Pete’s in-laws (or two out of the four). My Birthday was the 24th; Pete & I celebrated that Tuesday evening with a sushi feast (we hadn’t really had one since first coming to NY last year). Mmmm…nothing like good unagi! We went to a place called Marumi near the NYU campus. Really good sushi at very decent prices. Wednesday night was the first double-treat by the in-laws, Bill and Janet.Continue readingA Wonderful Birthday Week!

It was inspirational…for a new Dracula movie! Church Organ at 1010 Park Avenue Church 2 Sierra

“Strange Fruit” a Fantastic Experience this Past Weekend!

This weekend was the end of a week-long rehearsal process for “Strange Fruit,” culminating in two staged readings and creating what can only be described as an amazing experience for myself. I always dabbled in opera – did the aria “vienni t’affretta” from Verdi’s “Macbetto” in “Master Class,” and did Edith in “The Pirates of Penzance.” This time, I was watching the creative process of some fantastic singers from the Opera world directly, and becoming both inspired and incredibly humbled by their work. There was a great turnout by audience members both performances (Friday night and Sunday afternoon), including headsContinue reading“Strange Fruit” a Fantastic Experience this Past Weekend!

SOUNDS OF THE SUBWAY SESSION #1:

as a fan of fellow artistes and a fan in general of sounds and sound design, I’m going to begin a little collective project – that is, as I hear interesting sounds in the subway (musicians, the train, someone talking, me rehearsing something under my breath, the odd insane person yelling at the wall, etc), I will turn on the iTalk function of my iPhone and record a bit of it. I’ll just post an .mp3 for your listening pleasure. Don’t expect to be blown away by the audio – it’s just me offering up and sharing a bit ofContinue readingSOUNDS OF THE SUBWAY SESSION #1:

Presenting Kay “ThePal”

Pete bought us some Whatnot Muppets for Christmas – and here’s mine in her very first public appearance. Only…she’s not too happy about how she presents herself. Some attitude there, as well! Enjoy – she’s in the midst of coming to life, so this may not be her final “personality” matrix.
